A Word From Our Mayor

Dear Citizens of Roma,

I hope everyone is having a great week. Last Wednesday, we launched our first edition of the 'A Word from Our Mayor' newsletter. I was pleased to see many of you reading my message and sharing your questions and comments. This newsletter is not just a means of communication but a vital tool for us to keep you better informed of the happenings of your city government. Your understanding and participation are crucial to us, and I encourage you to continue reading and engaging with us. To ensure transparency and clarity, I want to address concerns regarding water bills and city services. We understand that receiving a higher-than-expected water bill can be very distressing. Please know that we are committed to assisting you in these situations. The most common reason for an unusually high bill is an undetected leak, which occurs in 99% of the cases reviewed by our staff and administration. If this happens, please let us know immediately. Our city council has adopted policies to assist our citizens. In March of 2022, the council voted to adopt the Water Leak Policy under ordinance 2022-5, which is part of the Utility Policy and Procedure Manual. A hidden water leak beyond a customer's control is eligible for review and an adjustment equal to 50% of the difference above the average water and wastewater use. Additionally, structured payment plans are offered case-by-case, making the issue more manageable. We are here to help, our City Manager and staff will guide you through this process.

There's a lot to look forward to this weekend. Please make plans to join us at each of the following events:

October 5th - “Walk All Over Cancer” Cancer Awareness Walk (Guadalupe Plaza 8AM)

October 5th - Moonlight Market (Roma Historical Plaza 6PM)

October 6th - Miss Roma Pageant (Yamil R. Yunes PAC 6PM)

On a final note, congratulations to Ancestral Craft Spirits Distillery for being featured on KRGV News Channel 5 segment "Made in the 956." If you have yet to visit our local distillery or brewery, visit 702 N. Portscheller St. in downtown Roma to discover more of our city's beauty. Have a wonderful week, Roma!

Sincerely,

Jaime Escobar Jr.

Mayor
