A Word From Our Mayor

Dear Roma Citizens,

I hope everyone is having a great week. It's hard to believe how quickly October is passing by. Last weekend, we had planned to have our annual Roma Fest Parade, but unfortunately, the rain prevented us from lining up and rolling out the beautifully decorated floats onto Highway 83 for onlookers to enjoy. Despite this, we had a wonderful time at the luncheon we hosted at the Veterans Hall (VFW),honoring this year's parade marshal, Mrs. Cesarea "Chayo" Garcia, and her family. It was a fantastic event, and along with the Council, the Royal Court, and Congressman Cuellar, we presented Mrs. Garcia with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a plaque in recognition of her more than 30 years of service to our community.

On another note, while the parade didn't go as planned, we are already looking forward to future events and the continued support and participation of our vibrant community. This evening (Oct. 23),for example, we will host a Pumpkin Carving Contest from 6-8 PM at our Guadalupe Plaza. The event is for kids of any age, so please arrive early to secure 1 of 60 pumpkins available. Supplies are limited, so we'll operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. We can't wait to see your creativity and enthusiasm at the contest!

Finally, I want to stress the importance of exercising your right to vote. Early voting will take place this week and next, so plan to swing by the Juanita Cantu Gym to cast your vote for our local, state, and national elections. You have the power to decide the type of leaders you want representing you, so vote wisely. Your vote matters, and it's a crucial step in shaping our community's future. Have a wonderful week!!

Sincerely,

Jaime Escobar Jr.

Mayor
