A Word From Our Mayor

11-14-2024

Dear Roma Citizens,

I hope this message finds you well. On Monday, we celebrated Veterans Day, a significant occasion that holds a special place in our hearts. I want to thank all our veterans for their brave service to our country. Starr County, including our wonderful city, has been home to countless veterans who have positively impacted our communities for generations. We owe a debt Of gratitude to these men and women, and aside from honoring them for their service, it is our duty to uphold the principles they fought for. Moreover, we must use the freedoms they secured to create a better society. In the spirit of building a stronger community, let us recall the words of our 35th President, John F. Kennedy, during his inaugural address: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country." Though this was said in 1961, President Kennedy's message holds true today.

On Wednesday, November 11th, Councilwoman Gaby Rodriguez and I were sworn in for a second term in office at the city's World Birding Center Courtyard. We want to thank our community for the opportunity to serve another four-year term. I am proud of the steps we've taken to prepare Roma for economic development, and we are committed to continuing our work to improve the quality of life for all our citizens. The best is yet to come, and through God's grace and blessings, we will elevate our community to new heights. I am proud to serve as your Mayor, and I ask that you continue to pray for us as we serve you. If you love playing Loteria, we invite you to join our friends from Chick-fil-A for a fun evening of games at our beautiful Guadalupe Plaza on Friday, November 15th. The event will begin at 6 PIM; if it's anything like last month's Loteria event, it will surely be a success.

Sincerely,

Jaime Escobar Jr.

Mayor
